100 BUSINESS WISDOM FROM THE GREATS THAT MAY CHANGE YOUR BUSINESS FOR GOOD – 36 of 100
‘If you run you stand a chance of losing but if you don’t run, you have already lost’ Barrack Obama
I picked this quote because people may wrongly think it is about running for office but it isn’t! It is about taking action on whatever task that your inner wisdom whispers to you to do. What the heck, is inner wisdom? Some people call it sixth sense or gut feeling but it is there for everyone but we don’t know how to pay attention to it. If you look at some of the greatest breaks people have had in their lives, it may not be down to years of grafting but just a moment of decision and countless lives have been changed as a result. A contestant won American Idol competition years ago but it was a friend who applied on his behalf; however, he could have said no thanks and stay at home. Someone buys a lottery ticket at the last minute and won. You attend a pitching event for investor and your idea got funding. You have your own ideas. Analysis may lead to paralysis and most times it does. How do you combat hesitation and procrastination?
The habit of taking prompt action will prevent us from losing out on great opportunities because you get the jitters when you hesitate. I have interviewed business leaders for my book recently and those that are most successful are those who take prompt actions and don’t over-analyse. If it doesn’t work out you will know quicker and change course. If Obama had hesitated, it is unlikely that he would have got another chance ever. So what are you procrastinating about right now? Go out and do it because your breakthrough may just be in doing it.
